Timeless mid-century design in a family home

Hands up if you love the Modernist style!  Personally, it’s not my first choice in design genre but I do have a deep appreciation for the clean lines, open plan living, uninterrupted indoor and outdoor areas, and the use of ‘modern’ materials like stainless steel, large scale glass, slate, wood panelling, and laminate, etc that shapes the Modernist home.

A beautiful example of a Modernist home built in the latter part of the mid-century (1968) is this family home in Torrens, ACT for sale through Luton Properties Woden.  For sale for only the second time in 40 years this home is a gem!

The thatched ceilings, exposed beams, and the crazy stone paving are stunners!  With it’s fresh and clean kitchen and bathrooms there’s not a whole lot of cosmetic work to be done (of course there’s some because at 50 years young there will always be).  I’m particularly in love with the fabric of the drapes in the entry window … it’s very similar to the fabric I chose for my lounge and dining windows – there’s something about the colours and design that sing summer!

Flooded with light inside and a beautiful mature garden outside you’ve got the best of both worlds … and with the open courtyards and easy access to the outside from the inside this home is an entertainer’s delight.

Can’t you imagine coming home this?  The family (my cousins!) who have been living here since 2011 have made this home into a much-adored family home, and I’m pretty sure the next family to move in will love living here as much as S, N, and their children have!
